Masamune Datenicle is a six-episode web anime about growing up and fighting, centered on Date Masamune, the renowned warlord of seventeenth-century Japan, in his younger years. His clan drew its name from the Date area of the old Mutsu province, which is now part of the city of Date. The story mixes action with supernatural elements. The city commissioned it as the first part of its Kirari na Wonder Project, a campaign to promote local sights and regional charm, and Gainax's Fukushima studio produced it. The first episode premiered at a special event in April 2016, and regular streaming began in May.
