You know exactly what you're getting into the second Mami shows up with that smile, and the show knows you know, and it doesn't care. Kazuya is a disaster who deserves nothing, but watching him fail at lying to his family while three women orbit his complete inability to make a decision is weirdly magnetic. The grandmother subplot is real enough to remind you why you're still watching a show built on a premise that should have collapsed by episode three.

A year after meeting her, college student Kazuya Kinoshita still books Chizuru Mizuhara through a rental girlfriend app, and he still hasn't told his family and friends that the girlfriend he introduced them to is a rental. His ex Mami Nanami keeps turning up to tempt him for reasons no one understands. Ruka Sarashina, his pushy provisional girlfriend, refuses to take no for an answer, and shy, hardworking rental girlfriend Sumi Sakurasawa adds to the crowd. Nights at the pub, the beach, hot springs, Christmas and New Year's only deepen what Kazuya feels for Chizuru. Chizuru also tells him she is ready to give up the job to pursue her real passion, acting. Kazuya chooses to back her, and after her first play he promises to rent her every week to help with money, but his own hesitation and Mami hanging around for unclear reasons put that promise at risk. The season mixes comedy, drama and romance.
