Suzune's chase isn't about stardom, it's about proving her body won't win. She's spent years collecting courage from someone else's voice. Now she has to find her own, in front of judges who don't know what it cost her to stand on that stage at all. The Selection Project doesn't pretend winning the competition matters more than the moment she stops needing Akari to breathe. This is a show about sick kids becoming real people, not magical girls becoming famous.
Suzune Miyama has been ill with a weak heart since she was little and spent much of her childhood bedridden in a hospital room, where idol Akari Amasawa's songs gave her courage and made her smile through hard times. In her last summer of junior high, she enters the seventh Selection Project, a harsh national idol reality show held each summer in which thousands of girls audition for nine places and audience votes decide who advances. It is the same contest where Akari got her start, and Suzune hopes to follow her hero and lift others up the way Akari lifted her. Her first performance impresses the judges, but her nerves make her freeze partway through, and she seems to be out. Then Seira Kurusu, the girl who beat her, withdraws so that Suzune can compete in her place. Suzune vows that they will meet again as top idols. Expect a music-centered slice-of-life story about the demands of chasing an idol dream.
