This is what a cancelled show's ghost feels like: two DVD-only episodes doing the work an entire second cour was supposed to do. Zombie-Loan was built for 20-plus episodes and got guillotined, so these specials land like a note passed under a locked door, more time with Michiru, whose eyes read the black rings around the necks of the almost-dead, and with Chika and Shito, the two zombies grinding down a debt they never actually agreed to. PEACH-PIT's character work is still the draw, all that spiky elegance sitting on top of gag timing that swerves into something bleaker without warning. Fans don't watch these for closure, because there isn't any. They watch because it's the last confirmed sighting of a cast that deserved a full run and got a bonus disc instead.

These two special episodes extend the Zombie-Loan television series, which was planned to run past twenty episodes but ended early for reasons that were never made public. Bundled with the seventh DVD volume, the specials carry the story on from where the shortened broadcast run left off. Like the main show, they combine action, comedy and supernatural elements.
