Redline hand-draws seven years of motion into something no render farm can fake, Paprika drops you mid-parade with frogs and maneki-neko marching over your nervous system, and Nausicaä puts you in a gas mask inside a dead world and dares you to call it beautiful anyway. Every pick here earns its place through composition and color, not dialogue you'd miss. What's not on this lineup: anything coasting on a good script with flat, forgettable frames.
